Being offered is an exceedingly important rare 16th century figural Chinese pillow, green painted example molded into the shape of a reclining subject on a pillow, the headrest in the form of a lotus motif, floral motifs underneath the subject. Due to their scarcity, Chinese pillows have long been overlooked. Through extensive research, scholars now conclude that said pillows were a status symbol and often remained with the owners even in the afterlife. Solid terracotta, sublime glaze. Stan bought this pillow at a preeminent gallerist in Paris 25-30 years ago. Dimensions: 8 1/2″ x 4″ x 3″. In excellent condition. (Stan is deaccessioning his collection of pillows.
